US President Donald Trump has stopped plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, a former US Army officer.
In a message posted on Truth Social on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Trump said Hasan would still be executed by firing squad as planned, but the execution would not be shown live on the internet.
Trump said: “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.”
He added that the close families of the victims could watch the execution in person if they wanted.
Trump said: “That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims, if they so choose.”
Earlier this month, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Hasan’s execution would be shown live on the internet.
The plan caused strong criticism from politicians in both the Republican and Democratic parties. Some feared that the video could be used to support terrorism or encourage violence.
Before changing his decision, Trump had supported the plan. He said showing the execution could teach others a lesson and stop them from committing similar crimes.
However, after the criticism, Trump changed his decision. He said Hasan would still face the death penalty, but the execution would not be shown live online.
Nidal Malik Hasan is a former US Army major who worked as a psychiatrist.
On November 5, 2009, he shot soldiers at Fort Hood military base in Texas. The soldiers were waiting for medical checks before being sent on military missions.
The attack killed 13 people and injured more than 30 others. Hasan was sentenced to death in a military court in 2013.
