Manchester United are enduring a difficult spell after going seven consecutive matches without a victory in all competitions, following a 4-1 defeat to Como in the UEFA Champions League on October 21, 2026. The result has intensified pressure on head coach Michael Carrick amid growing concerns over the team’s performances.
Since beating Sabah 4-0 on September 10, United have recorded three draws and four defeats, raising questions about their form and ability to compete consistently.
United’s poor run began with a 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City on September 13, followed by a 3-2 loss to Brighton in the League Cup three days later, which ended their campaign in the competition.
They then drew 1-1 with Fulham on September 20 and recorded another 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on October 10. Their struggles continued with a 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid on October 13, before a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on October 18.
The run reached its lowest point on October 21, when Como claimed a convincing 4-1 victory over the English side, further increasing scrutiny of Carrick’s leadership.
The situation has drawn comparisons with Manchester United’s difficult period in December 2015, when the club endured a seven-game winless run under Dutch manager Louis van Gaal. The pressure eventually contributed to uncertainty surrounding his future before he departed at the end of the 2015/16 season.
Carrick is now facing similar questions as United attempt to regain their confidence and consistency. Following the defeat to Como, he acknowledged that the team had not performed well enough, while captain Bruno Fernandes also raised concerns about the team’s approach and its failure to put sufficient pressure on opponents.
Manchester United are scheduled to face Bournemouth in the Premier League on October 25, 2026, as they look to end their winless run and restore confidence among their supporters.
