Residents of Mahoro Cell in Mimuri Sector and Gishororo Cell in Mukama Sector have reason to celebrate after a pedestrian bridge connecting the two cells was officially inaugurated.
Residents say the bridge is a solution to problems they had faced for a long time. Previously, when it rained, children missed school, traders were unable to conduct business, and the two sectors became completely cut off from each other. Now, they say they no longer have to worry about crossing.
One resident said: “Now we will be able to go to the market without any problems. Our children can go to school every day without worry.”
Another resident added: “This bridge has given us a new life because it will help us trade more easily as residents of Mimuri and Mukama. We thank the leaders who thought of us and provided this bridge.”
The Vice Mayor of Nyagatare District in Charge of Economic Development, Matsiko Gonzague, said: “This bridge is a foundation for development. We ask every resident to protect it as they would their own property. The government will continue to bring services closer to the people to support further development.”
Construction of the bridge began in March 2026 and was scheduled for completion on June 16, 2026. The project cost over RWF 173,231,580. The bridge is 54 meters long and will be used by pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
The bridge was constructed through a partnership between Nyagatare District and Bridges to Prosperity, which has so far built six bridges at a total cost of over RWF 734,322,252.
