In Nepal, Rescue teams used helicopters and soldiers on Monday to deliver aid to villages hit by floods, as five people remained missing.
The flood struck areas along the Budhi Gandaki River on Sunday after a landslide blocked the river. It damaged or destroyed five bridges, three hydropower plant construction sites and dozens of homes and farms.
Nepal’s military delivered food and other supplies and began evacuating residents and tourists from the affected areas.
The government said an early warning helped most people reach higher ground before the flood struck. No deaths had been reported by Monday.
Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said “95 people, including nine foreigners, have been taken to nearby towns.”
Rescue teams are using trucks to transport food, tents, medicine and other supplies to areas accessible by road. Helicopters are carrying aid to remote mountain villages.
The affected region has popular hiking routes and October is one of the busiest months for tourists.
Nepal is also recovering from severe flooding near its border with China in August, which left more than 1,400 people dead and thousands missing.
