President Kagame mourns former Qatari Emir, hails his lasting legacy

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has expressed his deepest condolences to the leadership and people of Qatar following the death of the country’s former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy will endure for generations.

In a message shared on his official X account, President Kagame extended sympathy to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the royal family, and the Qatari people, saying Rwanda stands with them during this period of mourning.

“My deepest condolences to my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his family and the people of Qatar on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” Kagame wrote.

The Rwandan leader paid tribute to the late Father Amir for his role in transforming Qatar into one of the world’s most influential and prosperous nations. He praised Sheikh Hamad’s leadership, saying his commitment to serving his people and strengthening international cooperation would be remembered for generations.

“His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be remembered as a visionary leader who transformed Qatar into the remarkable nation it is today. His legacy of service to his people and commitment to friendship and cooperation among nations will endure for generations,” Kagame said.

President Kagame also reaffirmed Rwanda’s solidarity with Qatar at a difficult moment, emphasizing the close ties between the two countries.

“At this difficult time, the people of Rwanda and I stand with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad and our Qatari brothers and sisters,” he added.

Rwanda and Qatar have strengthened bilateral relations in recent years through cooperation in investment, aviation, trade and diplomacy. President Kagame’s message underscores the close friendship between Kigali and Doha while honoring the legacy of the late Father Amir, who played a central role in Qatar’s modern development and growing international influence.
