From “Netflix Club” to title contenders: Why Evra now fears Arsenal

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has once again gone viral after his recent comments about Arsenal F.C. revived one of the most famous jokes he ever made about the North London club.

In recent days, Evra joked that supporters of rival clubs are becoming increasingly nervous as Arsenal continue their push for major trophies this season.

Speaking alongside former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, Evra claimed that an Arsenal triumph in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League would create panic among rivals across England.

“If Arsenal win the Premier League and Champions League together, suddenly they achieve something no other London club has done,” Evra said.

He also joked that Manchester United F.C. fans are now hoping Arsenal drop points before the season ends.

“This is no longer football. This is survival,” he added humorously.

The comments quickly reminded many football fans of another famous statement Evra made about Arsenal back in February 2024 during an appearance on Sky Sports.

At the time, Arsenal had once again fallen behind in the title race after struggling to maintain consistency against top opponents. While discussing the club’s recurring disappointments, Evra delivered a line that instantly spread across social media:

“Watching Arsenal is like watching Netflix… you always have to wait for the next season.”

The joke became one of the most talked-about football quotes of 2024, with many rival supporters using it to mock Arsenal’s repeated inability to win major trophies despite promising campaigns.

However, the atmosphere surrounding Arsenal now appears very different. Under manager Mikel Arteta, the club has developed into one of Europe’s strongest sides and remains in contention for major honours.

Evra’s latest remarks have therefore been interpreted by many fans as proof that rival supporters are beginning to fear Arsenal’s progress rather than simply mock it.

Across social media, fans reacted by pointing out that the same club once ridiculed with the “Netflix” joke is now being discussed as a potential Premier League and Champions League winner in the same season.
